Blog readers, I’m sorry for my long absence. The first reason for my hiatus was having college-age kids home during August. Hunks of time went into helping the youngest put on an art exhibition, hiking with the oldest from Big Basin State Park to Waddell Beach (a hike of nine miles with wonderful views, ending at a point where wind-surfers colorfully dot the ocean!), playing scrabble and shopping with them. All good.
September has been full of start up events – team and advisory meetings with leaders in the young mothers group at my church, the actual start of a hundred plus women meeting weekly, and starting up my tutoring business. Thirteen people have asked for sample lessons with me, filling up my schedule with six appointments per week, one being a group lesson. I've started referring inquirers to other teachers and am enjoying teaching a capable friend to tutor.
Another endeavor has been reading, then writing. two plus page reflections on these books for my graduate courses in Creative Writing. August I read Grapes of Wrath and the last last few days I finished books started in September Cutting for Stone (contemporary medical fiction) and Mystery and Manners by Flannery O’Connor—all excellent.
Readers, I commit myself to writing something to you once a week again. Some great ideas have been simmering and the whispers of the muse are increasing in volume, near ready to shout for my fingers' time and attention!
